G324 - Notes on what a digipack and magazine advertisement are and their importance

Digipack

A Digipack is a type of CD or DVD case that has several sides in order to appear more attractive to a buyer. Digipacks are often more attractive to people as they have a lot more information on them than a regular CD case due to the many sides.

The most common Digipack size has six sides, including 1 or sometimes 2 disc holders. These will display pictures, information, track listing etc on them which are interesting to fans of the band. The Digipack may also promote the band as there can be a lot of design and interesting information of the different sides.

Magazine advertisements:

Magazine Advertisements can be a variety of sizes in a magazine, they can take up 1 quarter of the page, half of the page or the entire A4 page within the magazine.

The purpose of A magazine advertisement is to promote something to do with the band. This can range from a new album or single to a new tour. If it is advertising an album there must be a connection between the album cover/the style of the album cover and the poster. If it is there to promote a tour it must work/fit in with any merchandise or previous promotion that has been done for the tour.

A magazine advertisement can also be an introduction to the artist. For example, their style and music genre can be demonstrated within the poster, possible attracting the attention of those who have not previously listened to their music.
