G324 - Other Student Music Videos

What Works:
The opening title "Rivers" is very well done and opens the music video well. The colour changes between what is seen as "before" when the couple were together and the "after" the couple break up. This works well as the colours are bright "before" giving connotations of happiness and darker during the "after" giving connotations of sadness. The quick shot changes as the camera pans around each character is an effective shot.

What doesn't work:
Although the shots all have a similar style, some of the shots are too shaky and don't work as well as others would. There's not much lip syncing which causes the music video to seem less like a music video, also the small amount of lip syncing that is used is not done particularly well. Towards the end of the video the same shots are used and the music video becomes quite repetitive.

Mise:
The locations in the music video are fitting with the narrative and are used very well. The colour changes (even in the two characters costumes) give different connotations which help to tell the story of the music video.

Narrative:
There's a strong narrative throughout the video as the audience can understand what is happening and what the relationship between the two characters is. The colour changes emphasise the 2 halves of the story.

Titles:
The opening titles are very effective in setting up the rest of the music video and the closing titles do no distract from the main bulk of the video as they do not take too long.

Sound:
The music genre works well when paired with the visuals. The opening title includes the diegetic sound of the sea/water and then the rest of the music video only uses the non-diegetic sound of the song.
